Coming up with a title for videos on your channel is pretty easy. In fact, the title is automatically created with the name of the file you uploaded when you upload it. But is it easy to come up with a GOOD video title? Not quite.
In this post we've brainstormed a quick list of 5 things you can do, and just as importantly NOT do, to help ensure your titles not only make sense, but are organized and not working against your viewers.
1) Get Rid of the Default Filename Title
This one may sound a bit silly and obvious, but sometimes people do forget! When you upload a video it'll automatically take on the name of the file you're uploading. Make sure to change this to something besides the default value!
2) Not Too Long Of A Title...
Excessively long video titles are likely to run off the screen and be truncated when going through videos, hiding information from your viewers accidentally. Besides, your viewers are there to watch things, not read them. Short and to the point is usually the way to go! That said however...
3) ...But Not Too Short
Short and sweet is best in our opinion, but not TOO short. You want to avoid things like one word titles or anything that ends up too vague because it simply doesn't tell the viewer anything about the video, especially if the thumbnail doesn't show much.
4) Stay On Topic
When coming up with a video title you want to make sure it's relevant to the content within the video. Clever titles are fine, but clever titles that don't pertain to the video itself are much less so. "Into the Fryer! - [Product Name] Review" for a review of a deep fryer could work, but "Deep Fried" would not.
5) Keep Things Organized
When your channel has pages of videos to go through, one of the simplest ways to keep things organized is to make sure you label videos so they're clear about what they contain, but also tell what videos they're related to. Things like including the name of a product and the word "review" in a product review video, or numbering videos that are part of a series ("Florida Trip #1", "How to Install Chrome Extensions - Part 1") are helpful to your viewers scrolling through your channel. They can find videos relevant to them more easily and find the latest episode of their favorite video series faster.
Just Scratching the Surface
Obviously there is plenty of other things that could be done to quickly and easily fill in some gaps with your channel, but these should be a good checklist to get your started!
